Classic rafting on the Neretva

The full Neretva route through the Konjic section at class II–III rapids. The standard choice — exciting enough without any previous experience.
- ✓4–5h on the water
- ✓Gear included
- ✓Licensed skipper
- ✓Lunch at base
What class II–III means on the Neretva
Classic is the full route through the Konjic section, run at class II–III. On the international scale that means moving water with real rapids and clear lines between them: waves that get you thoroughly wet and standing water that pushes the boat around, but nothing that needs previous whitewater experience.
That is why it is the trip most guests end up on. Family rafting takes the harder water out; anything above class III would need a different river and a different guest.
You paddle, the skipper steers and calls the strokes, and the briefing before you launch covers what to do if you end up in the water — worth knowing rather than worrying about.
How long rafting on the Neretva takes
Four to five hours on the water. That is the paddling day, with stops along the way rather than a continuous sprint downstream.
Around that, allow for gear and the safety briefing at the base beforehand and lunch there afterwards, so the trip takes most of a day rather than a morning. Coming from Sarajevo adds about 50 minutes of driving in each direction.
There is no shorter version of the classic route. If you want a shorter, calmer day on the same river, that is what family rafting is for.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
It suits anyone reasonably mobile who is comfortable wearing a life jacket and can follow instructions in a boat. No rafting experience is needed and most guests have none.
It is the wrong pick if you want the gentlest possible version of the river — take family rafting — or if you are after a quick photo stop. You are in a boat, paddling, for four to five hours.

Where you'll be: Konjic on the Neretva
The base is near Konjic, in the valley the Neretva runs through, about 50 minutes south of Sarajevo. That proximity is the practical argument for rafting here instead of driving roughly two hours in each direction to the Tara.
If you don't have a car, the transfer from Sarajevo costs €30 per person and can be added to the family or classic trip — or you can book rafting with transfer at €80, which already includes the drive in both directions.
Booking, deposit and cancellation
Pick a date and the number of guests. The booking is checked against the operator's capacity for that departure and confirmed instantly — or not at all.
A 20% deposit is charged by card and the balance is paid on site on the day. Cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure; if we have to move the trip, you choose between another date and a full refund.
Who runs your day on the river
Via Neretva sells this trip and is responsible for it. The day itself is run by a licensed rafting operator based in Konjic — their skippers, their boats, their briefing.
We name that operator, with the licence they run under and a phone number, in your confirmation. Before you pay we can't, because capacity moves between partners; after you pay there is no reason not to.
